Peony Bed

The peony has been London’s Civic Flower since 1919. As a millennium project, the London Horticultural Society planted a peony bed at the Tourist London Information Centre entrance located at 696 Wellington Rd. S. The bed contains peonies hybridized by Arthur Percy Saunders and Lyman S. Cousins. Both men had close ties to London.

Be sure to visit the peony bed from mid-May to early June for a spectacular showing; and visit often as there are early and late blooming varieties so it looks different every day!

Although the peony bed is located on city property, the LHS is responsible for taking care of the bed itself. If you like pulling weeds; have we got a job for you! Contact us to see how you can get involved.

Plant Sale

Gathering on the Green

The LHS annual plant sale takes place on the first Saturday in June at Gathering on the Green in the Wortley Village which is hosted by the Old South Community Organization. This vibrant event is not only our largest fundraiser but also a much-anticipated community gathering, buzzing with excitement. The plant sale gives us the opportunity to connect with gardeners at all levels, from seasoned experts to first-time growers looking for inspiration. It’s a great day of sharing our knowledge with the general public and we often learn something new from them! Whether you’re hunting for unique perennials, hoping to swap gardening tips, or simply enjoying the lively atmosphere, there’s something for everyone to discover and enjoy.

The plants that we sell are donated to us both by our members and from our friends at the Friends of the London Civic Garden Complex.

Horticultural Bursaries

To help support students in the horticultural field, the London Horticultural Society gives an annual bursary to a student taking Green Industries at Clarke Road Secondary School and a student studying Horticulture at Fanshawe College.
